Consciousness In Full Effect

Rightfully so, consciousness is a term that is used quite often. I’ve learnt in the recent months that being conscious is one of the most important aspects of being alive, due to the awareness that it comes with. Although this is the case, I’ve come to realise that very rarely do we actually process what being conscious actually means. We associate it with being “awake”, and being able to process information in ways that species all over the planet are not able to. Consciousness is much more than that, it’s rooted in the subconscious mind. A tool that we tend to ignore, which is sad because the subconscious mind is the defining force in how we process information, and how we use this information to create our lives via thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

When we experience childhood, without realising it, the influences present in our lives all the way from our parents, to what we watch on TV, end up being downloaded into our subconscious mind. A subsection of our mind that acts on its own, and processes information without our voluntary doing. These downloads end up being stored, and eventually start manifesting as various beliefs, both good and bad. Let me give you an example. If during your childhood you’re constantly told by your parents that strangers equal danger, this will be processed into your mind in a way in which without even realising it, you’ll believe that strangers are to be avoided due to them being dangerous. You’ll not even have to think about it, it will be part of your subconscious beliefs.

With this being the case, I’m sure you can understand how this could take a turn for the worse. Many of us are not even aware that we have a subconscious mind. We take in all sorts of downloads ranging from the music we listen to, to the things we view in the media, and without realising it, we start to embody all these things. A very good example is beauty standards. I can speak for my generation specifically, but for a lot of us who have grown up in Africa, DSTV has been a big part of our lives, with channels such as Disney Channel impacting us in numerous ways. Since that was what we were exposed to, the beauty standard for both males and females was defined by the celebrities we saw on these shows. That’s not to say anything negative about these shows, but subconsciously, that is what we processed from watching that at a young age.

If the subconscious mind is plagued, our beliefs and thought processes start to be infected as well. Why it’s so scary is because we don’t even realise when it’s happening. That’s where insecurity stems from, the subconscious mind. If you look in the mirror and see someone that you do not like, it’s because your subconscious mind believes that you aren’t good looking…There’s no other reasoning for that. Luckily, for every single negative thing in life, there’s a positive counterpart. This is where the conscious mind comes into play.

The conscious mind is the complete opposite of the subconscious mind, in that it’s the sub section of the mind that we’re aware of. The part of our mind that we’re in control of. If you angry at someone, or a situation, and you tell yourself to calm down and not over react, that is your conscious mind at play. You’re aware, and use that awareness to direct your thoughts, emotions, and actions into living a healthy life. Why the conscious mind is so powerful is because it can become conscious of the subconscious mind, and start to influence it. That’s when things become beautiful.

If we find ways to be completely aware of our beliefs, and when I say completely, I mean living in a state of full consciousness, where we know the subconscious patterns that limit us. If we can find ways to do this efficiently, life starts to unfold in a positive direction, because we’re in control of what we want to believe in. If you affirm to yourself everyday in the mirror that you look good, your subconscious mind will have no choice but to listen and believe that you are, but the same goes for the other side of the coin….True consciousness is being completely aware of everything in your mind, as well as your outer reality. When I say everything, I mean everything.

The music you listen to, the food you eat, the friends you have, the movies you watch, the activities you do, all of it. Via consciousness, the mind starts to download things that are actually beneficial to you as an individual. We lose the plot when we ignore that awareness, and exist in a state of “sleep”, because in this state, we’re experiencing life based off influences from all directions, which can manifest in very detrimental ways.
