Fear is the mind killer
Fear is something that I’ve only understood in detail recently.
I’ve definitely experienced the feeling in different facets throughout
my years growing up, but I’ve never really understood what it is, and
how easy it is to fall into the trap of limiting yourself due to being
afraid. I bring this up because in its core, fear doesn’t exist. To many
that may sound foolish, but due to the mind being so powerful, it’s capable of putting us in this created state of fear without any
legitimate reasoning.
Lemme unpack that further with an example . If you have an important speech that you have to deliver in front of a large group of people, in many cases, nerves tend to kick in prior to the speech, and anxiety results in worrying, stressing, overthinking, etc. All are symptoms of fear. From what I’ve observed, all these feelings arise due to the mind making assumptions that have no validity…”How are people going perceive me?” “Is my speech good enough?” “Is my voice clear enough?” All these questions start piling up in the mind, but what a lot of us don’t acknowledge, is the fact that in many cases, we’re not the ones actually thinking these things.
Have you ever noticed that in situations where you’re overthinking , you yourself don’t actually want to overthink, it’s almost as if there’s another voice taking over. It just happens…That’s because there’s a voice that panics, but that voice is not you. When you become conscious of that, things start to change.
The reason I’m speaking about this is because fear is one of the biggest threats to human success. The fear of judgement, the fear of perception, the fear of not making it…The list goes on. Our minds quickly latch onto the notion that we need to worry and that something is wrong, which unfortunately puts us in a very low vibrational state, where we don’t know our worth, we don’t believe in ourselves, and we’re afraid. A literal mind killer.
I’ve found that awareness of the mind and its patterns is a massive game changer when it comes to dealing with fear, and any other low vibrational states of being, because you quickly understand that all fear is…is a feeling. Nothing more, nothing less. Humans are gifted with the ability to feel, so we’re going to have to embrace feeling the good things and the bad things, always remembering that all they are, are feelings.
In situations where my mind decides to panic or stress, I quickly become aware of the fact that I’m feeling a certain type of way, but in no way does that mean anything. I allow myself to feel and process what the feeling is, and understand that it’s not me. Ever since I started making this a habit, I noticed that when fear tries to present itself into my experience, I simply observe it in its entirety, not making anything out of it, and eventually the feeling simply vanishes.
I’m 23 years old now, and being aware of how powerful the mind is has aided my mental state in so many ways. I take time to detach from my thoughts and not get consumed by them, with fear being something that I know how to manoeuvre through. Whoever reads this and battles with any form of mental struggle, know that everything you experience mentally is caused by your own thoughts which can be reprogrammed to put you in a mental state that is peaceful, healthy, and efficient. It begins with intention.
